A New Toy

As a child I always remember having so many new toys to play with on Christmas Day. As I got older it became things like a new mp3 player or a games console and now the things I have to 'play' with are more likely to have me making a mess in the kitchen! Last year I was generously gifted my laptop by my Dad and this year he gave me some money to decide what to do with! After going back and forth (do I really need an iPad or a pair of shoes) I settled on purchasing a DSLR camera! Anyone who knows me will know that I am so indecisive, even over the smallest decision. So of course I hummed and hawed over which camera to go for and whether I would use it enough, (or even learn to use it all all). After deciding it would be the Canon 600D (T3i) I headed to the store, where I still panicked whether I was making the right choice (I went back in there 4 times that day), I finally came home with my new toy for grown ups and a very stressed out mum!

I have no idea how to really use my  new camera yet so if anyone has any good books/videos/tutorials they can share with me I would very much appreciate! I did start to have a play around the other day and snapped a quick couple of pictures around my room!

  4. Oo I'm so happy for you! I remember the day I was gifted my Canon Rebel. Back when T2is were new..

I've never taken a photography class in my life, but my photography has come a long way in a few years. Just as a general tip, I would recommend shooting around on automatic, then custom, then AV, then manual.. or some gradual progression like that. Look at photos that you like and try to figure out what you like about them and then you can always google how to get that certain effect.

There's also so much great info on pinterest of all places - simple charts that explain what a low f-stop will result in as well as shutter speed.. things like that.

Good luck playing with you new toy!! :)
