Mother, Daughter, Sister

It was Mother's Day yesterday here in the UK and I for one am very grateful for my Mum. She has always been there for me when I need her, even if she isn't feeling well herself, she'll always put me first. 

I am also very proud to have a little sister too! So I thought this year it would be nice to get my Mum & sister a gift that will always remind us all of the bond we share.

I wanted to get something a bit different so Uncommon Goods seemed like perfect place to search, I love how unusual all the jewelry pieces are. I decided to go for necklaces as they are the one piece we all wear on a regular basis and the selection (found here) left my stuck for choice.

Strawberry Nutella Red Velvet Valentine's Cupcakes

If your Love has a sweet tooth, why not bake them something for Valentine's Day?! I decided to try out some classic red velvet cupcakes but give them a little twist...

Start by mixing up a batch of your favourite red velvet cake batter, or you can use a packet mix to save time! 

I decided to use Nutella and Fresh Strawberries for my fillings. 

I made three different combinations:

Half fill a cupcakes case with cake batter, then add a teaspoon of Nutella and top with more batter.

Mix chopped up strawberries into the cake batter.

Half fill a case with batter, swirl in Nutella, add some strawberries pieces, top with more batter and swirl in some more Nutella.

Once the cupcakes had cooled completely I piped some homemade butter cream (I add vanilla seeds straight from the pod into my butter cream and it tastes so much better than using Vanilla essence) and topped with some candy hearts.

Wondering why there is only one finished cupcakes pictured? Well it was dark by the time I finished them and let's just say not many made it to the next day!

DIY Sequin Heart Brooch

I wanted to make a little something to send to some of my friends this Valentine's Day to let them know I love them too! These sequin heart brooches are super simple to make and you can make a few quite quickly if you get a mini production line going! 

You Will Need:

Felt

Craft Glue

Scissors

Pen

Sequins

Brooch Pin

Needle and Thread (optional)

Start be cutting out two hearts, it's best to use a template to get them even every time! 

Starting at the outer edge glue a little section on sequins at a time and work your way inwards.

Keep Going ......

Glue your brooch back to the second heart (I also sewed the back on to make it a bit more secure but you don't need to do this). Then glue the two hearts together...

And there you have your sparkly sequin heart brooch! You could also use a hair clip back instead if you have a friend who likes to add some sparkle to her hairstyle, or make a matching pair and turn them into shoe clips! I have made a few spare and I plan on adding one to my shopping bag! 

DIY Pom Pom Love Banner

As it is Valentine's Week I thought I would share some really easy, fun and inexpensive DIY's to spread some LOVE, starting with this cute Pom Pom Banner.

You will need:

Glitter Paper

Pom Poms 

Twine

Glue

Scissors

A Pencil

Letter Templates

The first thing I did was print out the lettering I wanted to use and cut them out to use as templates. 

I then traced these onto the reverse of the glitter paper and then cute out the lettering out again from the glitter paper.

I found some cute pre cut edged hearts but if you can't find any you can again cut these out from your glitter paper and then glue your lettering on. 

I laid out the hearts and pom poms first so I could play around on placing the different size pom poms and then threaded my twine through a large needle. I then used this to thread the pom pom and hearts together. 

I then made loops at each of the twine and the banner was ready to hang! 

The whole banner took less than 30 minutes to make and cost under £3!

Heart Shaped Valentine's Layer Cake

Whilst being super productive and browsing through pinterest I saw this genius pin for making a heart shape cake using a round and square cake tin. I knew that it was perfect for making a special cake for a Valentine's weekend treat. I decided to make mine a four layer cake using a mixture red velvet and chocolate cake. I used cream cheese frosting to layer the cakes together and then coloured the rest of the frosting a light pink to cover the cake. I was trying to think of something to decorate the top with so it didn't look so plain, and chocolate covered strawberries popped into my head. I can't believe I've never made my own ones before, they are so quick and simple to make! This would also be a great cake to use pink ombre layers of vanilla sponge in too.
